Many of Jason Derulo's fans were left surprised when he incorporated robotic dogs into his performance during the NFL's TikTok Tailgate pregame show on Sunday.
The 33-year-old singer, who recently injured his foot, appeared as one of the featured artists at the event, which also featured The Black Keys, and he performed a medley of some of his hits.
The Wiggle singer's performance, however, was criticized by a number of fans who found his usage of the robotic dogs, which resembled Boston Dynamics' Spot model, as backup dancers to be a regrettable choice.
One Twitter user wrote that Derulo was performing with 'the Black Mirror robot attack dogs.'
Another expressed their dismay with the singer for having 'biohybrid doggos' for backup dancers.
One viewer simply wrote that they had turned off their television after seeing the songwriter playing at the event.
A Twitter user humorously remarked that the songwriter was getting 'ready for the UFOs and Alien Invasion' with his performance.
After expressing that they were 'not loving' the inclusion of the robot dogs, another viewer wrote that the performance resembled 'the Puppy Bowl in 2055.'
Another asked why Derulo was 'dancing with the robot dogs that are going to be hunting us in 10 years.'
During the performance, the hitmaker played his newest single, Saturday/Sunday.
The Whatcha Say singer collaborated with David Guetta while producing the track.
The two previously worked together on the 2018 track Goodbye, which also featured performances from Nicki Minaj and Willy William.
Guetta recently released a statement where he expressed via EDM.com that he was excited to have been able to collaborate with the Talk Dirty singer.
He stated: 'It's great to have this collab track out. It's a record I love so much and I think it is such a banger. I'm really happy to be working with Jason once again, finally!'
Derulo's attendance at the event was previously thrown into question when he injured his foot last month.
According to TMZ, the performer hurt himself during a basketball game after he went up for a rebound and landed on another player's foot.
The media outlet reported that the singer had a small break in his foot, as well as a torn ligament.
Although he did not undergo surgery, he had stem cells injected in his foot and enlisted the help of a physical therapist during his recovery process.
Derulo went on to perform on crutches during a match between the Dubai Capitals and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders during the Dubai International Stadium last month.
